Believe in Us
The St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) opened its doors on March 17th, 1991, as the successor of St. Rose Hospital. SMMC is a non-profit organization that manages and carries out hospital functions serving the community of Dutch St Maarten in the Northeastern Caribbean. Our patient care services also support the surrounding islands such as Saba, St. Eustatius and Anguilla as well as others in the region. Our facility has 80 inpatient beds, approximately 430 employees and over 30 attending specialists are affiliated with the organization.
The hospital’s main focus is to reinforce a culture and environment where all employees are patient-focused and provide the highest quality care services in accordance with national and international best practices. By adopting the concept of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), the hospital strives to better meet client needs and exceed their expectations. Our patients and staff are central to our CQI. Through tracking key quality and safety indicators, we are dedicated to improved patient outcomes.
As we shift our organization towards a new General Hospital, we are aiming to become a Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited organization which is considered the gold standard in global health care. JCI-accredited organizations are rigorously evaluated and must demonstrate committed compliance to quality care delivery based on the most current evidence-based practice standards. This means SMMC is working to improve and implement high-quality care initiatives, patient-safe policies, practices, and procedures required to meet those standards.
We place patients at the heart of everything we do — treating each individual with empathy, dignity, and unwavering respect throughout their care journey at SMGH.
SMGH is committed to delivering tailored, high-quality healthcare through skilled professionals who uphold the highest standards of medical practice and ethics.
We are deeply rooted in the St. Maarten community — partnering with local organizations, hosting health days, and actively contributing to the well-being of the island we serve.
SMGH invests in the growth of its people — from accelerated nursing programs to critical care certifications — ensuring our team is always equipped with the latest knowledge and skills.
The new St. Maarten General Hospital represents our commitment to a future of modern, comprehensive care — bringing advanced facilities and expanded services closer to home.
